description of project

The Kalimna Apartments are located south east of the town centre of Lorne, near Point Grey.

The apartments were designed by Mark Gratwick Architects Pty Ltd, and combined the refurbishment of the former Kalimna Motel at the front of the site, with the development of a second row of apartments to the rear of the site.

The development takes advantage of the sloping topography of the site, and the site´s location adjacent to the foreshore, to ensure a maximum number of apartments have views to the outstanding coastline of Loutit Bay and the Surf Coast.

The use of simple, contemporary architectural forms in the new development, together with its low scale and natural materials and finishes, has ensured the new building is integrated with the former motel building along the front of the site, as well as its coastal surrounds.

hansen was responsible for providing statutory planning input into the development approvals process for this project.
