project: 355 great ocean road fairhaven
client: private client
description of project
hansen was engaged to provide a visual assessment and landscape concept for a residential proposal along the Great Ocean Road, Fairhaven.
The proposal comprises of four residences on the Great Ocean Road and due to the sensitive landscape character of the area, a visual assessment was conducted. The process began with a viewshed analysis, identifying areas from which the proposal was visible from. The results were then confirmed on site and photos were taken, which were used to montage the proposal and provide a true representation of its visual impact.
A landscape concept was then was required to ameliorate the visual impact of the proposal while complimenting the architectural design and landscape character of the surrounds. Through plant selection, location and earth mounding, screening was accomplished from adjacent residences and most importantly the Great Ocean Road, while framing key views out to Bass Strait. Careful selection of indigenous coastal species created garden beds throughout the site with an emphasis on colour, vibrancy and texture, while a secluded 'dry creek bed' landscape was created along the existing drainage line, providing a private retreat.
The proposed development was approved by the local planning authority, Surf Coast Shire, who praised the applicant for the comprehensive detail and design quality of the application.
