Camberwell Junction is designated as a Principal Activity Centre by Melbourne 2030 and is the core retail, business and entertainment node in the City of Boroondara. Direction as to the use and development of the activity centre is currently provided by a structure plan that was prepared in 1993.

While some elements of the structure plan remain relevant today in general the structure plan requires reviewing and updating to reflect the current condition of the activity centre as well as current planning and design philosophy. This is the aim of this project.

Over an 18 month period the hansen team has prepared a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the activity centre which, in collaboration with the community, has led to the evolution and agreement on a set of key urban design principles to guide the development of the centre in the future. These principles are assisting in the development of a draft structure plan which will be prepared and exhibited to the community in 2006.
