project: warrnambool and moyne development program

client: warrnambool city council

description of project

The purpose of this project was to prepare a model that enables annual reporting of the supply and the demand for residential, industrial, low density residential and rural living zoned land in Warrnambool and the surrounding parts of the Shire of Moyne that are ‘influenced’ by the town of Warrnambool.

Warrnambool is a rapidly growing regional city which is poised to experience considerable development over the next 15 years. Council’s planning policies aim to ensure that sufficient zoned land is available to accommodate anticipated demand into the future.

Prior to the study being undertaken the supply of land was unknown, with various conflicting estimates. The project has provided an extremely valuable tool to assist Council in generating up to date and accurate information regarding the supply and demand for land in a variety of different land use zones. The brochures are seen as being particularly well presented and easy to understand. The approach to generating and updating information is seen to be logical and effective.

This project received a Planning Excellence 2008 Victorian Award Commendation in the Rural and Regional Planning Achievement Category.
