hansen was engaged by Surf Coast Shire to prepare a set of design guidelines for the commercial centres within Aireys Inlet so that new development will be sensitive to the existing and preferred future character of Aireys Inlet. The catalyst for the study is the need to provide greater guidance on built form matters given mounting development pressure in the commercial areas.
The project commenced with a background research phase that established a clear understanding of the issues and valued aspects of Aireys Inlet. One of the main aspect of this project is the strong community interest and involvement in the process via the community consultation sessions. This was integral to the generation of the built form design guidelines.
The design guidelines acknowledge existing opportunities and constraints of the commercial centres and explore options for how the built form can sustainably integrate with the Aireys Inlet natural coastal setting. The guidelines address urban design including building setback, scale and massing, materials, coastal views, landscape, relationship with the streetscape, design form and features and public realm.
The guidelines are simple and highly visual in their presentation ensuring they can be easily and clearly interpreted by the range of users including residents, property owners, architects, developers and builders. These guidelines are to be implemented into the Surf Coast Planning Scheme.

Các hướng dẫn thì đơn giản và dễ nhìn thấy khi trình bày, bảo đảm mọi đối tượng sử dụng như người dân, chủ bất động sản, kiến trúc sư, nhà phát triển và xây dựng có thể lý giải rõ ràng và dễ hiểu. Hướng dẫn này sẽ được áp dụng vào Chương Trình Quy Hoạch cho vùng Surf Coast.
