hansen was engaged by City of Stonnington to design a practice note to be used by residents, planning applications and Council officers to assist with the interpretation of the Hedgeley Dene Neighbourhood Character Overlay (NCO), and to help achieve appropriate development in this area.

The Hedgeley Dene Precinct is a residential area in Malvern East that surrounds a linear park called Hedgeley Dene Gardens. The precinct is significant for two main resons - the established landscape character and the unobtrusive built form, especially at the park edge.

The note aims to clearly spell out what the preferred character of new development is in the Hedgeley Dene Precinct. To be read in conjunction with the Schedule to the Neighbourhood Character Overlay and the reference document Hedgeley Dene Precinct Urban Character and Landscape Study (1998).
