project: point lonsdale urban design framework
client: borough of queenscliffe
description of project
hansen prepared an Urban Design Framework for the Point Lonsdale Shopping Village and Foreshore Areas to provide clear linkages between discrete areas and integrate social and economic needs with the physical design of places and spaces. Development of the framework plan resulted from extensive consultation with the project steering committee, stakeholders and the local community, including community group discussions, questionnaires, regular steering committee meetings and public exhibition of the draft urban design framework.
The resultant Urban Design Framework addressed the spectrum of issues which evolved from the consultation process, ranging from broadscale village structure and land use to detailed public domain design treatments. The vision was elaborated in a series of framework elements, including the improvement of pedestrian access from the shops to the beach, improved foreshore reserve facilities and amenity, revegetation of streetscapes, redefinition of an informal ‘village square’ meeting place and the establishment of a new lookout and ramp access to Point Lonsdale front beach to maximize the recreational opportunities of the locality.
