no matter where we work hansen always strives for excellence
We are delighted to announce that hansen received two prestigious awards at the 2008 AILA Victoria Project Awards. The Viengxay Town Masterplan, Laos PDR, received the AILA Victoria Award for Planning Excellence and the AILA Victoria Medal in Landscape Architecture, Victorias highest honour in Landscape Architecture.
In most third world countries, a lack of community capacity presents a significant stumbling block on the road to poverty alleviation. Similarly, landscape architects and other professionals face challenges working in historical sites of international interest where local and distinct cultural groups are facing global pressures of various sorts, particularly increasing prosperity through economic and tourism planning.
The Viengxay Town Master Plan represents a sensitive and remarkable achievement in addressing these crucial issues, and demonstrates the advanced leadership and management skills of Australian Landscape Architects practising abroad. The project is an exemplar of a participatory approach to landscape planning which has application across towns and cities worldwide where similar ethically sensitive issues are increasingly to be encountered. AILA Victoria Project Award Jury Citation
hansen continues its commitment to urban planning, urban design and landscape architecture capacity building projects, both locally and internationally. The recent success of the Viengxay Town Masterplan inspires us all to continue our collaboration with public and private sector clients, multinational companies and non government organizations.
"The Award is indeed a reassuring manifestation for the excellent work (hansen has) done and one of the many success stories of our ST-EP Programme". Olivia Doxsee, Project Coordinator, Development Assistance Department, World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
"Congratulations to (hansen) and all concerned in the Viengxay Master Plan on your recent awards". Tony Donovan, Senior Advisor/Sector Leader, Pro-Poor Sustainable Tourism, SNV Lao PDR
