12/10/2010 - labertouche community hub master plan
hansen design and planning team members Steve Schutt, Sarah Stevens and Ben Dohrmann recently headed to Labertouche to provide pro bono design services to assist the Labertouche Community Recovery Committee in the preparation of a framework plan for the proposed Labertouche & District Community Centre.
Labertouche is a rural community approximately 25km from Warragul in the Baw Baw Shire. In February 2009 the shire was severely affected by the Bunyip Ridge Bushfires. As part of the recovery process, a community recovery committee was established and a number of preliminary plans were developed.
hansen's workshop identified the priorities of the community and the key design principles for the master plan to build upon to ensure a safer and more sustainable future. It will consolidate the needs and desires of the community, including flexible meeting spaces, upgraded recreational areas, safer pedestrian zones, upgraded car parking, public toilets, and picnic and playground facilities.
hansen will provide the committee with a staged implementation framework to make the maximum use of all available funds and create a multi-use, attractive central hub for the community of Labertouche to strengthen their identity and ensure a sense of safety and belonging for all in the region.
