15/03/11 rising star scholarship 2011
On 8th March 2010, hansen celebrated International Women's Day by attending the Women's Planning Network Breakfast at Parliament House. The Minister for Planning Hon. Matthew Guy gave a key-note presentation, highlighting the fundamental role that women play in planning and urban development. Julieanne Saxty and Lucinda Hartley represented hansen at the breakfast.
As part of the proceedings, hansen partnership presented the Rising Star Scholarship to Elanna Nolan for her essay 'Going to Town: Gender, Youth and the City'.
hansen established the Rising Star Scholarship in 2006 as its contribution to the education of future planners in Victoria. hansen chose to partner with the Women's Planning Network in this annual scholarship because of the close ties the company has with the Network through Professor Roz Hansen, Managing Director, and one of the founding members and past presidents of the network.
The scholarship provides one year of HECS fees for an undergraduate or post graduate student in a planning or urban design course. The scholarship aims to not only financially assist the winning entrant for one year of his or her studies, but enhance awareness about gender issues and the ways such issues can be addressed in the planning and development of our neighbourhoods, towns, cities and regions.
Entrants to the scholarship are required to submit a research paper of 1500-2000 words on an urban or rural issue in Victoria which he or she considers important and provide a gender perspective on this issue. Over time WPN is developing a library of research papers via this scholarship that hopefully will contribute to and influence future planning policies and programs.
Congratulations Elanna!
