20/02/11 brw triathlon
Congratulations to all hansen team members who competed in the BRW Corporate Triathlon on Sunday February 20th! The event is held annually in every capital city of Australia, and hansen was strongly represented this year with two teams in Melbourne, with Damian Iles, Gary Wissenden, Lucinda Hartley, Julieanne Saxty, Ben Dohrmann and Cameron Stafford participating.
Race day started off with a cold morning, but turned into a beautiful day before being washed out by a flash storm which saw all 5000 competitors and supporters run for cover. The swim leg was cancelled due to poor water quality in the Bay, and competitors were challenged with an unexpected 400m soft sand beach sprint as a substitute. hansen started strong; Damian, Cameron and Julieanne on one team; Lucinda, Gary and Ben on the other.
All team members of our two BRW teams boasted admirable finishing times under the one hour mark. Damian upstaged the rest with his record time of 44:10 with Lucinda not far behind at 46:15. Special mention goes to Cam who clocked in at 49:52, despite having to stop twice during the cycling leg of the race to fix the chain on Gary's old bike!
We look forward to participating again next year!
